Real Italian Calzones Recipe
First time trying Real Italian Calzones, and it was a hit! My partner exclaimed, 'This is what authentic tastes like!' We've added it to our family favorites.
Ingredients:
500g pizza dough
200g ricotta cheese
100g mozzarella, shredded
50g Parmesan cheese, grated
100g cooked ham, chopped
2 tbsp fresh basil, chopped
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Salt and pepper, to taste
Olive oil, for brushing
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F).
Divide the pizza dough into 4 equal parts. Roll each into a circle, about 20cm in diameter.
In a bowl, mix ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, ham, and basil. Season with salt and pepper.
Place a quarter of the cheese and ham mixture on one half of each dough circle.
Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Seal the edges by crimping with a fork.
Brush the top of each calzone with olive oil and then with the beaten egg.
Place calzones on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
